How it works
-
1
Enter the sheet width and length, and the blade kerf.
-
2
Add each part with its width, length and quantity.
-
3
Choose whether parts may be rotated 90°.
-
4
Calculate: the tool packs parts into rows, then draws each sheet with a waste area.
Formula
For each sheet, parts are packed in rows: sort parts by length descending, place them across the sheet width until the row is full, then open a new row. Usage % = used area / (sheet area × sheets used) × 100. Waste = 100 − usage.
Practical tips
-
Group parts of similar size together: real saw benches love cutting in order.
-
Allow rotation — most rectangular parts can flip 90° without any downside.
-
Add the kerf to the width of each part in your mind: a 3 mm kerf × 20 parts = 60 mm lost.
-
Use the diagram as a starting point; final layout must respect grain direction.
Common mistakes
-
Ignoring the kerf makes the layout physically impossible.
-
Forgetting grain direction on veneered or visible boards.
-
Rotating visible parts without checking the grain.
-
Using a panel format that does not exist on the market.
