How it works
-
1
Enter the length, width and thickness of each board (or a batch of identical boards).
-
2
Pick a material or type your own density in kg/m³.
-
3
Choose the output unit: m³, board feet, or both.
-
4
Get volume, board feet and estimated weight instantly.
Formula
Volume (m³) = length × width × thickness (in metres). Board feet = (length ft × width in × thickness in) / 12. Weight = volume × density. 1 m³ ≈ 423.77 board feet.
Practical tips
-
Sellers quote nominal dimensions; always confirm actual finished sizes.
-
Green (fresh) wood weighs much more than kiln-dried — ask for the moisture content.
-
Compare quotes using the same unit: convert everything to m³ first.
-
Density varies by species and moisture; the values here are indicative averages.
Common mistakes
-
Using nominal instead of actual dimensions for volume.
-
Forgetting to convert thickness from inches when computing board feet.
-
Assuming all boards of one species weigh the same regardless of moisture.
