Cut in order

Cut the longest parts first. Sorting by size descending means fewer blade changes and smaller offcuts.

Use full-width rows

A panel saw cuts straight across the sheet. Keep each row full across the width before opening a new row.

Allow rotation

Most rectangular parts can flip 90° without downside. Always check grain direction on visible panels.

Count the kerf

A 3 mm kerf across 20 cuts wastes 60 mm. Add kerf to your mental math on every layout.

Practical tips

  • Reserve large pieces for parts that must be one piece (tops, sides).
  • Place defects in the waste zone if possible.
  • Batch parts of similar size to reduce blade changes.

The panel cutting optimizer draws an optimized layout automatically.
