Formula
Single leaf width = (opening width − 2×jamb − side clearances) / 1. Double leaf width = (opening width − 2×jamb − center gap) / 2. Leaf height = opening height − head jamb − top/bottom clearances. Hinges: up to 900 mm → 2, up to 1600 mm → 3, up to 2200 mm → 4, above → 5.
Practical tips

Standard clearances: 2–3 mm per side, 3–5 mm at the top, 8–10 mm at the bottom.

Use 3 hinges for doors above 900 mm and always on heavy doors.

Position hinges roughly 150 mm from the top and 200 mm from the bottom, the third centered.

Frame-and-panel doors allow the panel to move — never glue the panel solid.

Ordering the door before checking the rough opening with the frame installed.
